you can tell alot about a man from his favorite Garcia sung lyrics.....please post your favorites, limited to two lines per song.Go by style, substance and the way Garcia usually gets his point across
First set fun-"raised 8 boys only i turned bad,didnt get the lickins...etc
"come on in when its rainin,go on out when its gone"
Second Set seriousness-"comes a redeemer and he slowly too fades away"
"life may be sweeter etc....."
"since the end is never told etc....."
"Speak with wisdom like a child....etc"
Post drums insanity-"love/Pearly/more/wine"
"Guess it doesnt matter anyway(the last one)"
encores?-"the whole Baby blue"..."if i was a bottle id spill for love"

How about misheard lyrics. "Jolene, Jolene" "Mike and Gloria gonna be my name" Delilah Jones went to eat her dog."

"you can't let go....because you're afraid to fall."

More so the delivery than the actual lyric, but very moving to me.

Brother Pele's in the back
Sweet Seena's in the front
Cruising down the freeway
In the hot, hot sun

Suddenly red blue lights
Flash us from behind
Loud voice
"all will please step out onto the line"

Pele breathes words of comfort
Seena just hides her eyes
Policeman taps his shades
Is that a Chevy 69?

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Destination unknown
As we pull in for some gas
A freshly pasted poster
Reveals a smile from the pack

Elephants and acrobats,
Lions next monkey
Pele speaks righteous
Sister Seena says funky

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

Ringmaster steps up
Says the elephants left town
People jump and jive
And the clowns inch back around

T.V. news and cameras
There's choppers in the sky
Marines, police, reporters
Ask the where, for and why

Pele yells "we're outta here"
Seena says "right on"
Make your moves and starting grooves
Before they knew we're gone

Jump into the Chevy
Headed for big lights,
Want to know the rest
Hey, buy the rights,

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face
It's in my face

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

By Robyn Hitchcock:

Uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

Lack of involvement with the father
Or over-involvement with the mother
Can result in lack of ability
To relate to sexual peers

And in homosexual leanings
Narcissism, transsexuality --
Girls from the waist up
Men from the waist down --
Attempts to be your own love object
Reconcile your parents to you
By becoming both at once

Even Marilyn Monroe was a man
But this tends to get over looked
By our mother-fixated
Overweight, sexist media

So, uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

If you give in to them
Every time they cry
They will become little tyrants
But they won't remember why
Then when they are thwarted
By people in later life
They will become psychotic
And they won't make an ideal husband or wife

The spoiled baby grows into
The escapist teenager who's
The adult alchoholic who's
The middle-aged suicide

Oi!

So

Uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

Uh, yeah. I see the connection between a confused child and the fact that entropy, the most powerful universal law, dictates that nothing lasts forever.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...

Hellacious Acres

Look who’s advertising
Billboards everywhere
"see hellacious acres
Your tailor made nightmare"
Traffic is backed up for miles
Attendants welcome you with devilish smiles
Steady ... steady ...
Have your tickets ready
Steady ... steady ...

Go to hell
After dark
It’s a sin filled city
An amusement park
It’s a one way ticket to the other side
It’s a dr. jekyll and a mr. hyde
See lizzie borden, she’s one of the stars
And tricky dicky barkin’
Flashin’ you his pardon
Jack the ripper slashin’ your tires

Even the devil needs money
To cover his overhead
That’s why he opened hellacious acres
Or so his press agent said
Hang out with heavies
Your partners in crime
Forget the consequences, have a good time
Steady ... steady ...
Have your tickets ready
Steady ... steady ...

Go to hell
After dark
It’s a sin filled city
An amusement park
It’s a one way ticket to the other side
It’s a dr. jekyll and a mr. hyde
Get down and study suspicion and doubt
At hellacious acres
Listen mischief makers
Admission’s free you pay to get out

WHOA! I used to listen to this record when I was a little kid, "A Star is Born." I thought those lyrics were the shit, I thought, "man, I'd like to write some kick ass song like that." Man, I thought Streisand was hot. I STILL think Streisand was hot. In the day, I mean. C'mon, no?

You cannot tell me there are any lyrics better than these; love lost, yearning undefined, pathos and wonder...it's all here:

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Scratching in your henhouse
Sniffing at your feedbag
Slipping out your back door
Leaving my spray

Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down
Sex farm woman, don't you see my silo rising high?

Working on a sex farm
Hosing down your barn door
Bothering you livestock
They know what I need

Working up a hot sweat
Crouching in your pea patch
Plowing through your beanfield
Planting my seed

Sex farm woman, I'll be your hired hand
Sex farm woman, I'll let my offer stand
Sex farm woman, don't you hear my tractor rumbling by?

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Note: Sorry, BD, I only put this up as a reply to your post cause I didn't want to do it to T&S directly.
